The Oromo have been protesting against the Ethiopian ruling party’s Addis Ababa and surrounding area Oromia special zone integrated master plan that would evict the Oromo residents and transfer their land to Tigrean settlers and other non-Oromo land grabbers. This protest is a continuation of the protest that began in April 2014 during which over 78 Oromo students were murdered ,thousands injured and thousands imprisoned by Ethiopian ruling party security apparatus. The current protest restarted when the government indicated it would go ahead with the implementation of the plan despite rejection by the Oromo mass and specially students. The protest intensified when a document showing a ruling party affiliated company named Josi humanitarian foundation and Meles Zenawi village acquired 1200 hectares (4.6 square miles/12 square Km) of land in Sabata town, Oromia (close to the capital) leaked.

The Oromo protest has been expanding and the whole Oromo population have joined students in most towns. Roads leading from Finfine are blocked to prevent the advances of Tigray military forced called agazi. The number of death toll has reached 25 on December 10,2015. The students also released some 150 imprisoned people during the protests.

Oromo diasporas have staged demonstration across the world in solidarity with Oromo students.
